blog post Post-launch blues

It has been a crazy week since we have launched XtGem2 a couple of days ago. Despite over 500 people test-driving XtGem2 before we went live, we did manage to leave some pretty serious bugs in.

No worries, though - the team has been working extremely hard this whole week and we managed to resolve most of them. We hope to squash the remaining bugs during the following week.

Sorry about the inconvenience this might have caused you - once the system is stable, we will be constantly adding in new and exciting features. No pain, no gain, right? ;)

P.S. Please report any bugs you can find using our... [Continue reading]

blog post 1 000 000 sites!

It's a really big day for us, seeing as how we now host over 1 000 000 mobile sites! It's amazing when you think about it - a very significant portion of mobile internet has been built, and is currently being hosted, on XtGem. When I set out to build the best mobile site building service a bit over 4 years ago, I never imagined it would gain traction this fast and grow to be such a huge part of millions' of people's mobile experience.

That said, I would like to give thanks where thanks are due: First off, thank you, dear users, for supporting us. It has been crazy and extremely exciting four years and XtGem would not have made it this far without your continuous support. Keep on... [Continue reading]

blog post Experiments with Ads and v2 invitation code!

I just wanted to write a short blog post explaining latest developments regarding XtGem:
Due to an increasing amount of user sites attempting to obfuscate our forced ads, we are currently experimenting with the ad system, including additional obfuscation checks and random placements of the forced ad.
Since XtGem is a free service and we choose to provide our users with top-notch services completely free of charge, simple fact is, we still have to make money somehow to keep the service running. I believe it is completely fair that we reserve a place to publish advertisements on user pages and in exchange we provide otherwise-costly service for free.
This post is published to raise... [Continue reading]

blog post PHP support is coming!

It's our understanding here at XtGem that our service should not only make creating a mobile website as easy and intuitive as possible, but tools provided shouldn't get in a way of our users' creativity or technical knowledge. That's why we went an extra mile before and implemented a full HTML source editing support. This is also exactly the reason why we're excited to announce PHP support coming to XtGem in the new version.

PHP is a server-side scripting language that's used to power most of the dynamic content on the web. It allows developers to add functionality to their sites that's either difficult or... [Continue reading]

blog post Update #3 & translator call!

We have finally settled in into our cozy offices and been hard at work building XtGem since. Our aim is to completely rewrite the backend to allow for easy expansion and improve the scalability of our system. So far it's been going great. We've made some great progress in a very short amount of time.

I am still unable to provide an ETA for the launch, but it shouldn't be too far off. Team is working their asses off to get the product to match our high quality requirements as soon as possible. Once we're happy with how it works, we plan to run a closed beta for a period of time. Translators will be first ones to get access to the beta.

To apply as a translator, send your applications... [Continue reading]
